Raquel Motachwa is a MPH student in Public Health Administration and Policy at the University of Minnesota and a graduate assistant for the Center for Antiracism Research for Health Equity. She was raised in Coon Rapids, Minnesota and received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with focuses in Spanish and Public Health from the University of Minnesota. Influenced by her own experiences as a child of Black immigrants, Raquel is especially interested in the intersections of race and immigration and how that influences one's health and wellbeing. Her experiences with immigrant communities both in Minnesota, and abroad as a Gilman (Ecuador) and Fulbright- Garcia Robles Scholar (Mexico) have exposed her to the overarching need to address public health through an equity lens and dismantle racism in order to reduce health inequities. In her free time, she enjoys attending live shows, cooking new cuisines and traveling.
