Unfortunately, according to the Fine study, only 15 percent
of all centers have ongoing
relationships with unions and, in 2002, only 5.6 percent of the lowest fifth
of the workforce was unionized. Fine laments that, “If you’re a low-wage
worker, you’re just as likely to be struck by lightning as approached by
a union.”
