Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRP-MIC)
Scottsdale, AZ

The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRP-MIC) works to create a culturally relevant community tobacco workplace and tribal vehicle policy, as well as outreach to residents of leased tribal land to address policy issues. SRP-MIC also plans to target youth access issues through merchant education, media promotion, and youth health education.

The SRP-MIC is a Federally recognized, self-governing American Indian tribe whose present land base encompasses approximately 92 square miles. It is a rural reservation community, surrounded by and adjacent to the urban cities of Scottsdale, Tempe, Fountain Hills and Mesa. The community is comprised of two Native American tribes: the Pima (“Alkimel Au-authm” or River People) and the Maricopa (“Xalychidom Piipaash” or People Who Live Toward the Water). The closest tribes are Fort McDowell (15 miles northwest), Gila River (40 miles south), and Ak-Chin, (43 miles southwest).
