Restaurant Opportunities Center of New York (ROC-NY)

Founded after September 11th to provide ongoing support to displaced workers and families of victims from Windows on the World restaurant, ROC-NY has grown to include a membership of 700 restaurant workers citywide, and is committed to organizing non-union restaurant workers for better working conditions. In the last year ROC-NY has won four major workplace justice campaigns for groups of workers in various food service establishments. This year, they have five major projects:

  1. A corporate campaign against one major restaurant corporation in New York, the New York Restaurant Group, in which ROC-NY has noted a number of serious labor law violations;
  2. Organizing displaced workers from Windows and other World Trade Center restaurants to open their own cooperatively-owned restaurant;
  3. Organizing families of deceased and displaced workers from the WTC to fight for amnesty for themselves and others;
