Jovenes Unidos is the student-organizing branch of Padres Unidos, started by youth for youth, to work for a strong student voice for justice in schools. Padres believes that students have a right to an excellent education, and play an important role in making decisions and transforming schools so that all students have equal access to opportunities to graduate and go on to college.
Parent and student members have led and won campaigns to: demand accountability in the implementation of quality bilingual education programs; create and open the first Dual-Language (Spanish/English) Montessori school in the country; change school leadership, school curricula and teacher training to improve the lowest performing middle school in Colorado; and reform school zero-tolerance discipline policies that lead to high-school drop out rates.
