The Miami Workers Center
Miami, FL

The Miami Workers Center is a strategy and organizing center for low-wage workers in low-income communities in the City of Miami and Dade County, Florida. The Center’s work addresses the challenges associated with the rapid expansion of temporary, part-time and low-wage work in a period when both government and private employers are dramatically reducing public services, wages and employer provided benefits. The Center provides technical assistance, strategy development, and organizing support to grassroots, low-income leaders and organizations so that low-wage workers, welfare recipients, and the unemployed/underemployed can participate in policy debates and actively influence decision-making that affects their lives.

The heart of the Center’s organizing model is a commitment to developing the strategic leadership capacity of grassroots leaders through political education and strategy development. Through these efforts the Center increases the voice, participation, and credibility of grassroots perspectives in the development of public opinion and in the realm of local, state, and national policy making. Throughout its program work the Center is committed to engaging its programmatic work within and among communities that experience a pronounced history of structural exclusion.
