


The Black Health Coalition of Wisconsin, Inc. (BHC) began in October 1988.
It is currently comprised of over 25 African American organizations and 20
individual members who are dedicated to improved health for African Americans
and other underserved populations. The Coalition currently works with African
American agencies in the cities of Racine, Kenosha, Beloit, and Madison.
The BHC also works in these same communities regarding HIV/AIDS. The BHC
currently operates three community coalitions/task forces, which focus on
the areas of infant mortality, HIV/AIDS and tobacco control. Each of the
coalitions/task forces is comprised on residents, consumers of services,
providers, and community based organizations. Since it inception, the BHC
has been involved in advocacy, community organizing and policy impact within
the State of Wisconsin.
The BHC also currently operates a Youth Tobacco Prevention Center in a middle school. This Center trains middle school youth to become Tobacco Prevention Specialists and provide workshops in the African American community. This Center also provides in class training regarding tobacco use prevention to students of the middle school.
