For over seventeen years, Dave Nakashima has worked in the field of developing and coordinating culturally appropriate social and health care services to diverse communities. He began his career directing programs in social service, mental health and national policy organzations. As an independent consultant, he focuses his facilitation, training, technical assistance and curriculum development services in areas of individual and organizational cultural competence.
Mr. Nakashima began working with APPEAL in 1994 with the development of the APPEAL Network. Since then, he has served as a co-lead trainer for five APPEAL leadership trainings and authored an educational toolkit on cultural competency.
In the tobacco control movement, he has been a guiding force in facilitating collaborative efforts with community based providers, county and state health departments, national non-profit organizations and federal agencies throughout the country. A partial list of his clients include the American Cancer Society, Asian & Pacific Islander Tobacco Education Network, Coalition for a Tobacco Free Hawai’i, Joint Ethnic Tobacco Education Networks - California Department of Health Services, SmokeLess States/American Medical Association, Office of Smoking and Health/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Cancer Institute, and the Praxis Project. Mr. Nakashima lives in Oakland, CA with his partner, Debbie, and their two daughters.

Ms New Breast is an enrolled member of the Blackfeet (Amskapikuni) and currently resides on the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana. She has worked with Native American rural and urban communities to promote family wellness in the U.S. and Canada. For over 17 years she has been involved in providing culturally based prevention services to American Indian youth, and their families, tribal councils and communities. Ms. New Breast has provided facilitation, training and technical assistance services to American Indian communities and designed curriculum that includes promotion of cultural expression, tobacco prevention program development, principles of traditional leadership, wellness in interpersonal relationships, and culturally based tobacco policy activities. She supports the development of culturally based prevention programming to promote community health and wellness.

Andrew has served as the Executive Director of the Arizona Community Action Association, as State Program Director for Kids Voting Arizona, Legislative Attache to the Arizona House Minority Leader and most recently as the Project Director of Arizona Clearing the Air within the government relations department of the American Cancer Society. Andrew has been a National Fellow with the Center for the Study of the Presidency in Washington, D.C., and has been a leader in the non-profit sector. Andrew has served on numerous boards and commissions, including the ASU Alumni Association Board of Directors, Arizona Citizen Action Board, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership-Arizona Board of Directors, Healthy Arizona 2010 Commission, NewTown Community Development Corporation, ASU Los Diablos Hispanic Alumni Association, Coalition for Tobacco-Free Arizona, Tempe Community Action and the Board of Directors of the Tempe Boys & Girls Club as well as the National Board of the Congressional Award Foundation in Washington, D.C.. In addition to these community involvements, Andrew has served as a Site Director for the Downtown Urban Services YMCA's Minority Achievers Program and has volunteered as a mentor and tutor in Guadalupe, Arizona.

Wayne Pawlowski is an independent consultant, trainer and clinical social worker based in the Washington, DC area. Mr. Pawlowski has trained in 49 of the 50 United States and in 13 nations. His areas of specialization include training skills and curriculum development, male issues, human sexuality, sexuality education, working with adolescents, reproductive health and family planning, GLBTQ youth, group facilitation, GLBT issues-in-the-workplace, and counseling skills. He has trained for a wide range of diverse organizations.
Mr. Pawlowski spent 17 ½ years with Planned Parenthood including several years as the first Director of Training for Planned Parenthood Federation of America and ten years as the Director of Education and Training for Planned Parenthood of Metro Washington, D.C.
Prior to his work with Planned Parenthood, Mr. Pawlowski worked as a counseling supervisor, program and project director, trainer/curriculum developer, counselor/youth supervisor, and social worker in child welfare. In addition, he served as a VISTA Volunteer (VISTA Associates) and a Peace Corps Volunteer in India. Mr. Pawlowski also taught Human Sexuality at the Master’s level for the Catholic University School of Social Service in Washington, D.C. for seven years.
