Laura Williams, MD

Dr. Laura Williams is a fellowship-trained family physician in public health medicine. She is committed to the practice of quality medical care that meets the needs of a designated community. Currently Dr. Williams is in part-time private practice and a staff physician at Southern Indian Health Council, Inc. which serves San Diego tribes, local urban American Indians and other underserved and underinsured community members.

 

In the past Dr. Williams has served as a medical director for community-based federally qualified health centers, Indian health centers, and university-based health programs. In addition to her medical practice, Dr. Williams has been funded to participate in foundation-funded initiatives (Ford, RWJF, and the California Endowment). She is also a member of the Juaneno-Acjachemen Nation and a descendant of the Gabrielino-Tongra Nation. Dr. Williams is a graduate of USC, Tufts University School of Medicine, and the Robert Woods Johnson Medical School/Rutgers Public Health Program. She holds over ten degrees and certificates in family medicine and primary care. She also holds medical licenses in three states.

 

Dr Williams is a member of several national, state, and local commissions and advisory boards who are committed to improving the health of American Indians, underinsured, and underserved communities. She is an advisor on issues related to breast and cervical cancer. Her focus remains on the shortage of health professionals in American Indian and rural communities.
