Marta directs policy related activities for The Praxis Project, including research on emerging policy issues and approaches, analysis of key policy issues, support of publications, and the provision of technical assistance and training to local coalitions. Prior to joining Praxis, Marta served as Assistant Director of Youth Activism at the American Legacy Foundation where she led Legacy's efforts to develop the leadership capacity of young activists who are committed to promoting tobacco control and prevention in communities across the US. Marta has an extensive background in youth engagement and community development, including the founding of Sister to Sister/Hermana a Hermana, a community-based arts and leadership organization for girls and young women of color in Washington, DC, and the creation of Digital Connectors, a national leadership and technology program for low-income youth. She has served as Director of Youth Initiatives with One Economy Corporation, Youth Development Director at Calvary Bilingual Multicultural Learning Center (now CentroNía), and consultant to the Child Welfare Policy and Practice Group in Montgomery, Alabama. Marta is a board member of PopandPolitics.com, a youth media organization, and has previously served on the board of directors of the Columbia Heights/Shaw Family Support Collaborative and Asian American LEAD. She is a former Echoing Green Fellow, and a graduate of Duke University with degrees in Literature and Visual Arts.
